New car sales in Western Australia have started the year on a sour note, with sales down more than 10 per cent in the first month of 2017.
About 7,000 new cars were sold in WA in January, down 10.5 per cent on the previous corresponding period, while new car sales were in the black nationally with a 0.6 per cent increase, according to the latest data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries.
Market leader Toyota sold 1,354 new cars last month in WA, down 6.2 per cent on January 2016, with Mazda coming in second-best with 698 sales, down 9.9 per cent.
Ford increased sales by 5.7 per cent with 576 new cars sold, while Holden sales were down 13.5 per cent with 551 cars off the floor.
Aston Martin doubled its January 2016 performance with two new cars sold last month, with Ferrari making a single sale.
Lamborghini also sold one car last month, down from three sales in January 2016.
Jaguar sales continued to improve, with sales up 125 per cent with 27 new cars sold, while Porsche sales fell 39 per cent with 25 new cars sold.
