This 576-page report is the largest, most comprehensive granular report on board and executive remuneration packages in Australia.

It provides a detailed breakdown covering 16 different positions, from non-executive chairman and chief executive through to chief operating officer, company secretary and chief legal counsel.

The report provides a further breakdown by state, industry sector and company size, with five tiers based on market capitalisation.

Hence it is possible to analyse, for instance, the remuneration packages of chief geologists at mid-cap mining companies in Western Australia.

BDO Remuneration and Reward managing director Allan Feinberg said this year’s report was much more comprehensive – the data is drawn from 1,400 ASX-listed companies, up from 900 in the inaugural 2017 report.

Our purpose in developing this report is to provide an independent, credible benchmark study to executives and board members across corporate Australia on executive remuneration,” he said.

“Essentially, we aim to guide the development of executive pay arrangements to ensure executives create value with shareholders - and other stakeholders - and not from them.”

The remuneration data is also broken down into major components, including annual incentives and long-term equity rewards.
