Nick Perrignon will part ways with Stockland to join prominent Western Australian developer, Satterley Property Group, in September.
Chief executive Nigel Satterley said Mr Perignon will take the new role of chief operating officer and will work closley with the executive team.
He added that the new appointment did not foreshadow any slowing down in his workload.
Mr Perignon is currently Stockland's chief operation officer residential communities and is based in Sydney. He will return to Perth for his new role.
Mr Satterley told WA Business News the group is currently setting up a board, with three independent directors to be announced in a week or so. Mr Satterley will also be on the board.
The new chief operating officer role and the board are part of the group's growth plans, with the company currently managing 30 projects across the country.
Mr Satterley said the group is "tracking along satisfactorily" and believes the property market is close to the bottom of its cycle.
He has tipped a soft recovery to start from mid 2010.
The announcement is below:
Satterley Property Group principal Nigel Satterley has made a major executive appointment by bringing in the former Stockland WA general manager Nicholas Perrignon as his new chief controlling officer.
Mr Perrignon is leaving his Sydney-based job as Stockland's national chief operating officer (residential communities) to return to Perth as Satterley's top executive.
"Nick's appointment to this newly-created position is part of the expansion of our executive management team," Mr Satterley said.
"He will bring a great deal of experience and depth to help us meet the demands of our growing organisation," Nigel Satterley said.
The Satterley Property Group is Australia's largest independent residential development company and currently has more than 30 residential developments in various stages of development, including master-planned estates in Victoria and Queensland.
Mr Perrignon has been with Stockland for the past seven years.
Before his executive role in Sydney he was general manager WA and general manager, Queensland. Prior to his career with Stockland, he was State manager WA for Australand.
The new appointment does not foreshadow any slowing down in Nigel Satterley's own workload.
"We have exciting plans ahead," he said, "and Nick will work with me and the executive team to bring these to fruition."
Mr Perrignon, who is married with two children, will join Satterley in September.
