New take on charity build

WESTERN Australian developer Desmar Holdings is set to begin construction on a unique fundraising project for children’s charity Variety WA.

Instead of a more traditional residential charity home, Desmar is funding the construction of a commercial complex in Bibra Lake, with all proceeds going to Variety.

The complex will consist of 321 square metres of office space coupled with a 1,224sqm warehouse.

The charity complex is also being built with the support of LandCorp and numerous suppliers and tradespeople, who are supplying donated or discounted goods and labour.

Desmar expects construction to be complete by June.

Desmar managing director Mark Taddei said his company was proud to be leading the project.

“We are looking forward to making this project a huge success for Variety WA, as well as providing a WA business owner or investor with the opportunity to purchase a great property on prime commercial land,” he said.

Variety WA chief executive Michael Pailthorpe said funds from the sale of the property would be used to purchase tangible equipment and provide practical services to enrich the lives of children in need, in both metropolitan and regional Western Australia.

“This is a huge opportunity for Variety and we are very grateful – as are the children benefitting from the rewards of this project,” he said.
