Local companies Fleetwood and Quality Builders have won contracts worth $13.8 million for the supply of transportable buildings to the Department of Education.
The major contract, for the supply of $10.1 million of transportable classroom units, was split between the two companies, with ASX-listed Fleetwood to supply $7.3 million worth and Quality Builders the balance.
Other tenderers for the contract included Pindan, Hutchinson Builders, Ausco Modular, Aussie Modular Solutions, Nordic Homes and Pigdon Portable Restorations, signalling the keen competition for government contracts.
A second contract, worth $3.7 million, was awarded to Quality Builders for the construction of transportable classroom and shed units according to www.tenders.wa.gov.au.
In an investor update released last month, Fleetwood said the education sector was showing improved prospects, in contrast to tougher trading conditions in the resources sector and the recreational vehicle market.
Forrestfield-based Quality Builders has been operating for 30 years and describes itself as one of the major suppliers of government transportables in Western Australia.
