Kailis Bros sees dip in sales

Canning Vale-based seafood producer Kailis Bros has maintained its status as one of Western Australia’s largest private companies, with annual sales of $433 million last financial year.

Sales revenue dipped from $451 million in the previous financial year, according to the company’s annual return lodged with ASIC.

The Kailis Bros group includes a seafood business, under the KB and Just Caught brands, a food service and logistics business, a rock lobster arm trading as National Fisheries, the Perth fish markets, and the namesake café and retail outlet in Leederville.

It has more than 500 employees, according to the group’s web site.

The parent company posted a net profit of $7.4 million for the year ended June 2014, down from $8.5 million.

It paid total dividends last year of $7.5 million, up from $6.9 million.

The annual return did not include commentary on the performance of the business.

Kailis Bros was established in 1926 by Greek migrant George Peter Kailis, who was succeeded by his son Michael.

The business is run by third generation family members, including chief executive Nicholas Kailis.

It is separate from Fremantle-based company MG Kailis, which was established in 1962 by Michael G Kailis and his wife Patricia Kailis.
