Gallagher acquires Perth firm Mavco

US company Gallagher has acquired Perth-based Mavco Insurance Group, luring several executives who remained independent after the broking giant bought their previous firm.

The purchase was foreshadowed by Business News earlier this month when it was reported that global insurance broker Marsh snapped up Stirling-based Austral Risk Services and BMS Group disclosed that it had agreed to buy Western United Financial Services.

Today’s announcement marks Gallagher’s 10^th merger over the past 12 months as a part of its ongoing expansion strategy in Australia.

Mavco was an independent broker focused on construction, health, engineering, mining and financial services.

The firm was co-founded by Jonathan Winter in 2016 after his former employer independent Perth firm Strathearn Insurance Brokers was acquired by Gallagher at the end of 2015.

Mr Winter was followed by ex-Strathearn brokers Daniel Waters, Rodney Aylmore and Stephen Hughes who also left after the acquisition.

In a statement, Gallagher chief executive Sarah Lyons said the brokerage was thrilled to welcome the executives and the whole Mavco team to Gallagher.

“I know they are all very keen to bring their expertise to our business, and to offer their clients the full range of Gallagher’s international capabilities,” she said.

Mr Winter said they were proud to join Gallagher and merge their collective experience and skills with the team.

All of Mavco’s employees will join Gallagher’s workforce across its Perth and Adelaide offices.
