Australian’s are increasing their social media presence and reach, according to a study on the nation’s social media habits.

The 2013 Yellow social media report found that 65 per cent of Australian’s now use social media.

According to the report, Australians use social media the most at the beginning and end of the day.

Forty two per cent of respondents said social media was the last thing they checked before going to bed, while 34 per cent of social media users log on at work.

Facebook dominates the Australian social media landscape with 95 per cent of social media users on the network.

The study found Australian’s spend an average of seven hours per week on the site.

Linkedin is the second most popular in the nation with 20 per cent of social media users on the professional network.

Twitter and photo-sharing app Instagram attract 15 and 16 per cent of social media users respectively.

Google’s attempt to crack the social media market has achieved some success, with users of its Google+ service up from 9 per cent to 15 per cent.

For 6 per cent of Australians the toilet is a popular destination to keep up-to-date with their Facebook updates and Twitter trends.
