Liberty Metals chair Nicholas Katris has welcomed the junior’s board appointment of experienced North American resources executive, Steve Letwin.
“It is rare for a company of our size to attract a director who has led a multi-billion-dollar, dual-listed gold producer for a decade and delivered across some of the world’s most demanding operating environments,” Mr Katris said.
Mr Letwin arrives at Liberty with more than four decades of experience across the energy and resources sectors, including nearly 10 years as boss of dual-listed goldminer IAMGOLD, which presently has a market cap of C$11.5 billion.
During his tenure – where IAMGOLD both produced and developed several projects across West Africa, North and South America – Mr Letwin was crowned Canadian top executive of the year and North American mining executive of the year in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
Presently, Mr Letwin is both president and chief executive of private Canadian firm Mancal Corporation, a group-based entity which oversees companies across several sectors – including coal, oil and gas, real estate and private capital.
As the Subiaco-based junior continues to assess exploration options at its Paraiba rutile-monazite project in Brazil, Mr Katris said Mr Letwin’s background was ideal in helping the company unlock further potential across its rare earths portfolio.
“Steve’s deep expertise in corporate finance, M&A and mine operations, together with his extensive North American capital markets network, will be invaluable as Liberty advances its project portfolio and pursues growth opportunities across the resources sector,” he said.
Moving forward, Liberty says it intends to adopt a systemic-based exploration campaign at Paraiba, located near Brazil’s north eastern coastline.
Along with conducting a radiometric survey, either by drone or helicopter, the junior intends to map radiometric anomalies, facilitate ground-truthing, along with a 5-15m shallow auger drilling campaign.
Liberty last traded at $0.003 cents.
