More than 200 people participated in the 20th annual Hawaiian Ride for Youth and raised a record $2.9 million for mental health charity Youth Focus

The riders cycled about 700 kilometres from Albany last week, finishing in Perth on Saturday.

To celebrate the event’s anniversary, 16 of the original 24 riders who participated in the first event in 2003 and their family members formed the Heritage Peloton and rode the original coastal route.

The 2022 event broke the previous fundraising record of $2.5 million set in 2017.

Since its inception, the Hawaiian Ride for Youth has raised $30 million for the Youth Focus.

The money raised from the event is donated to the youth mental health service to help it provide free professional counselling and suicide prevention education to people ages 12 to 24 in WA.

The event is the second largest cycling fundraiser in WA, behind the MACA Cancer 200- Ride for Research which raised $6.9 million in 2021.
