John Poynton AO CitWA is a company director and philanthropist, and one of Perth’s most prominent and successful investment bankers and corporate advisers. Current roles include being chairman of Strike Energy, Jindalee Partners and SC8 Technologies, a principal of Linc Property, a director of the Future Fund Board of Guardians and Crown Perth, and chairman of Warrington Property’s investment committee, Christ Church Grammar School and GivingWest. He was co-founder of Azure Capital in 2004 and served as chairman until April 2016. He was also a co-founder and chairman of GEM Consulting (1996-2004) and was managing director and chairman of stockbroking firm Hartley Poynton (now Hartleys), where he worked from 1976 to 1996. Past roles include being chairman of Alinta and ASX Perth, and a director of Austal, Multiplex and Swan Gold Mining. In the not-for-profit arena, Mr Poynton chaired Celebrate WA (2010 to 2014) and the WA Museum Foundation, and was a member of the Higher Education Endowment Fund Advisory Board, Payments System Board of the Reserve Bank of Australia and of the UWA Business School. Mr Poynton is a member in the General Division of the Order of Australia and is a past recipient of a WA Citizen of the Year award in the industry and commerce category.
