Spinifex attracts high-profile investors
Lawyer Dan Mossenson, broadcaster Karl Langdon and Elevate Group managing director Shane Crommelin contributed to Spinifex Brewing Co’s recent $750,000 capital raising.
Funds from the capital raising will be used to ramp up the brewery’s production to meet increasing demand.
Mr Mossenson, a well-known liquor-licencing lawyer, invested in the recent capital raising and has also been appointed as non-executive director of the company’s board.
He said he wanted to invest in the company because of its unique point of difference.
“I have provided legal services to the liquor and hospitality industry for over five decades,” he said.
“Spinifex Brewing is the only business that I have encountered during that time that combines part-Aboriginal ownership, opportunities for outside Aboriginal people to supply bush product which it uses to create unique flavoured beers and a meaningful charitable contribution to the health of war veterans.”
Spinifex is part-Aboriginal owned, uses Aboriginal businesses in its supply chain and donates 50 per cent of profits from sales of its F88 beer to veterans’ charities.
Mr Mossenson’s wife, Diane Mossenson, will also join the team to guide and design the development of the proposed Spinifex Alehouse in Perth’s northern suburbs.
Former West Coast Eagle and sports broadcaster Mr Langdon is also a major investor and has joined the marketing and sales team as a consultant as well as joining the Spinifex Alehouse team.
Mr Langdon said he invested because he loved the story of the company.
“The time, effort and energy that has been sacrificed to get this business to where it is right now has been a pleasure to witness,” Mr Langdon said.
Elevate Group’s Mr Crommelin said he was first involved in the company in 2019 and was inspired by founder’s passion for the industry.
Elevate Group will provide support in business development and financial management and planning and Mr Crommelin will join the company’s board.
Spinifex Brewing Co sold its first beers in February 2020.
The company pivoted to making hand sanitiser in a joint venture with Limestone Coast Brewing during the pandemic.
It is planning on opening an alehouse in Perth at the end of 2021 and exporting to Europe, South America and Singapore in the near future.
