Chris Stavrianou has been appointed to the Takeovers Panel, while Sharon Warburton and Tracey Horton step down from the national body after nine years.

Federal Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services Stephen Jones has announced the appointment of seven new members and the reappointment of ten existing members, all expected to serve three-year terms.

Mr Stavrianou is the managing partner and co-founder of independent corporate advisor Poynton Stavrianou and will commence his role on the Takeovers Panel on April 30.

He has more than two decades’ experience in mergers and acquisitions and formerly worked for global investment banks UBS in Sydney and Macquarie Capital in London.

Mr Stavrianou was the state director of Western Australia for the Australian Treasury, a role in which he established and led the federal government’s Treasury team in WA.

Professional board directors Ms Warburton and Ms Horton have both served on the Takeovers Panel since 2015, with April 29 confirmed as their last day of service on the national body.

Panel president Alex Cartel said the Panel executives welcomed the new members and thanked those who were outgoing.

“These senior Panel members have made an outstanding contribution to the Panel," said Mr Cartel said.

“I would like to particularly thank Richard Hunt, Tracey Horton AO and Ron Malek for their contribution as Acting Presidents”.

The Takeovers Panel is a peer review body with sole jurisdiction for Australian public company and fund takeovers.

The Panel has 52 members, all of whom are serving on a part-time basis.
