Gold miner Resolute Mining has wrapped up its board renewal plans with the appointment of Marthinus Botha as chairman, succeeding Peter Huston, who announced his retirement late last year.

Mr Botha, who was previously remuneration and nomination committee chairman for Resolute and has served on the company’s board for two years, was appointed to the role on the same day Yasmin Broughton and Mark Potts were named as incoming non-executive directors.

The new appointments form part of a formal board renewal process that began when Mr Huston in November announced his plans to stand down.

Mr Huston, who served as chairman for 15 years, has formally retired as a director at Resolute’s board meeting today.

“Resolute is well placed to continue to deliver enhanced value to shareholders and I have high confidence in Martin Botha as the new chairman and in Yasmin Broughton and Mark Potts as excellent additions to the board,” he said in a statement.

Chief executive John Welborn said Mr Botha was a natural and compelling candidate for the role of chairman.

Resolute shares were 3.4 per cent lower to $1.19 each at the close.
