Local legal firms add experience

Nexus Law Group has grown its Perth office with the addition of Marc Montandon. Mr  Montandon’s previous roles include general counsel for Sundance Resources, company secretary of SGS Australia, and solicitor with firms Clayton Utz and Ellery Brookman.

Mark Williams has joined MinterEllison as partner. Mr  Williams has 23 years’ experience in insurance and medical negligence. He was previously a partner at DLA Piper, which he joined in 1994.

Clayton Utz has appointed David Benson partner in its Perth commercial litigation team. Mr  Benson joined the firm in 2005 and also practises in the areas of intellectual property and information technology.

Tim Morgan has been appointed partner of Lavan’s property and leasing team. Mr  Morgan joined Lavan as an associate in 2011 and specialises in commercial property, high-rise apartments and mixed-use developments.

Also in property and leasing, Julie McKeesick has been promoted to senior associate. In the firm’s planning and environment team, Alex McGlue has been promoted to senior associate.

 

Newnham CCIWA chief economist

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia has appointed Rick Newnham as its new chief economist. Prior to joining CCIWA, Mr Newnham spent six years with Shell in a series of roles. He was awarded the 2011 Young Western Australian of the Year for founding the Left Right Think-Tank.

 

Eve president of YMCA WA

Justin Eve, 40under40 award recipient in 2012, has been appointed president of YMCA WA. Mr  Eve has served as a board member for the past three and a half years. His appointment follows the retirement of Brad Wylynko. Mr  Eve is partner, risk and controls and WA mining and energy leader for PwC.

 

Weir promoted at Citadel-Magnus

Michael Weir has been promoted to partner of Citadel-Magnus. Mr  Weir spent a decade at The West Australian, leaving as a senior business reporter in 2007. Since then he has served in a number of corporate and investor relations roles, most notably six and a half years at Gindalbie Metals.

 

P&N Bank appoints Director

Julie Elliott has been appointed director of P&N Bank. A highly experienced senior banking and finance executive, Ms  Elliott’s career spans over 35 years across retail banking, commercial banking, wealth management, project management, accounting and audit. Ms  Elliott is principal at Nous Group, and is a former chief executive at Bank of Sydney.

 

Tourism WA’s top appointment

WA Premier and Tourism Minister Colin Barnet has appointed Gwyn Dolphin as chief executive of Tourism WA. Mr  Dolphin began his career with Tourism WA in 2012 as executive director of events and subsequently as acting executive director of markets and partnerships. During this time, Mr  Dolphin became involved in the establishment of the Margaret River Gourmet Escape and the relocation of Hopman Cup to Perth Arena. Mr  Dolphin, who had been acting chief executive since July last year, has been appointed for a five-year term.

 

New chair at Water Corporation

Water Minister Mia Davies has announced the appointment of Michael Hollett as chair of Water Corporation. Mr  Hollett has served on the board for five years as a non-executive director. Mr  Hollett is a qualified hydrographer who moved into property development in the private sector. He is director of Ocean Gardens Retirement Village and H&H Development Enterprises, former chief executive of National Lifestyle Village Group, and former chair of the Pilbara Development Commission. Mr  Hollett takes over as chair following the end of Eva Skira’s five-year term. Current director David Lock has been appointed deputy chair.

 

Three senior appointments at Donald Cant Watts Corke

Donald Cant Watts Corke has announced three key senior appointments. Neil Dickson, a director since 2013, has been appointed managing director, WA & NT. Mr Dickson was instrumental in establishing the Darwin office and leading the company’s expansion into the Northern Territory. Mr Dickson replaces Richard Archer, who has been managing director of the WA office since its inception in 2007. Current associate director Sharon Yap has been appointed director, and associate Niamh O’Connor becomes an associate director.
