Joyner joins Committee for Perth

Herbert Smith Freehills partner Tony Joyner has been appointed chair of the Committee for Perth board, replacing Kate Lamont.

Mr Joyner has worked at Herbert Smith Freehills for more than three decades, including ten years as managing partner.

His non-executive experience includes serving on the board of Lions Eye Institute and chairing Perth science centre Scitech’s board from 2012 to 2020.

Mr Joyner said he was looking forward to continuing and enhancing the committee’s work in improving cultural diversity, economic prosperity, sustainability and amenity of the city.

“This current period of change is rapid and transformational,” Mr Joyner said

“The Committee for Perth is well-placed to inform strategy and policy to ensure the Perth region seizes the opportunities before it.”

He thanked Ms Lamont for her work as chair of the committee for the past three years.

Ms Lamont said she intended to remain an active member of the committee.

“I am proud of all that the committee has achieved, in particular, its extensive research base which provides the essential facts for business leaders and the policymakers in government,” Ms Lamont said.

She said Mr Joyner was a fitting choice, given his long-term involvement in the committee’s agenda and the fact that Herbert Smith Freehills was a founding member.

Other leadership changes were also announced at the committee’s annual general meeting today.

Perth airport chief executive Kevin Brown was elected to the board.

Mr Brown has been closely involved with the committee in recent years, including chairing the Hashtag Perth project steering committee.

He said he was passionate about Perth achieving its full potential.

His appointment follows the retirement of Tim Shanahan and Andrew Hill.
