Tony Howarth has resigned as Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Queensland's Board of Directors.

Mr Howarth said it wasn't an easy decision to make, but he's decided to step down because of other commitments.

Mr Howarth is on the board of Wesfarmers.

He is also the chairman of St John of God Health Care and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Australia.

"It was certainly not an easy decision, but the travel and other work and family commitments meant I had to make some changes," Mr Howarth said.

The Bank's chairman Neil Summerson thanked Mr Howarth for his valued contribution since he joined the board in 2007.

"Mr Howard joined us following the acquisition of Home Building Society and his contribution to the Board, given his extensive banking and corporate experience, was invaluable during the Global Financial Crisis," he said.

Bank of Queensland is seeking a replacement director and deputy chairman.
