Buyers eye Yallingup, Eagle Bay

The couple behind a luxury tourism company and former pro surfer Taj Burrow are among the buyers recently snapping up property in the state’s south west.

 James and Hayley Baillie, founders of premium holiday accommodation provider Baillie Lodges, recently acquired an 18.94-hectare lot along Injidup Spring Road for $3.96 million.

Through Baillie Lodges, the couple have built a portfolio of high-end properties across Australia, with one property on Vancouver Island in Canada, typically set in remote or world heritage-listed locations, bordering national and marine parks.

This includes on sites neighbouring North Queensland’s Daintree National Park, Kangaroo Island, Lorde Howe Island and at Uluru-Kata Tjuta.

Business News understands the Yallingup property will be retained for private use by the Baillies.

 “We first visited Injidup Beach almost 20 years ago with some US friends that were travelling the globe and thought it was one of the best places on the planet,” Mr Baillie told Business News.

“They subsequently purchased and built an incredible house there.

“When the opportunity came up recently to purchase the lot next door, we were excited by the potential for a very special coastal home. 

“That said, we haven’t yet been able to visit due to border restrictions.

“South West WA is such a fantastic place with some of the best beaches, wineries and food…all things we love.”

In other South West property news, former pro surfer Taj Burrows purchased a 4.5-hectare parcel in Yallingup last year.  Jhy Realty managed the $1 million sale. 

Stocker Preston Dunsborough’s $6.5 million sale of a home with more than 30 metres of beach frontage in Eagle Bay was one of the highest selling properties for the region in 2020.

Other high-priced transactions for the year included the $4 million sale of a property on Kestrel Street in Eagle Bay and 38 St Alouarn Place in Margaret River, which sold for $4.2 million.

Down the road, number 19 Alouarn Place sold for $3.5 million.

Meanwhile, prominent businessman John Poynton (Crown Perth chair) and partner Di Bain (City of Perth councillor), recently listed their 13-hectare Sundance Lodge property in Yallingup for sale. 

Yallingup house prices are up 16 per cent on last year, representing a median price of $1.89 million, according to the latest data available from the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia. 

Eagle Bay properties achieved an even higher annual growth in prices - up 24.9 per cent to a median price of $1.65 million, while house prices in Margaret River also increased across 2020, by 5 per cent.
