Insurance Commission of Western Australia chief executive Rod Whithear has joined the board of the Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation (ARPC). The ARPC provides reinsurance for terrorism, cyclone and cyclone-related flooding events under the Federal Government’s Terrorism Insurance Act established in 2003. Mr Whithear has been appointed for a three year tenure and will serve on the ARPC board in a part-time capacity. He will continue to work as ICWA chief executive, a position Mr Whithear has held since 2012.

The federal government has appointed Jaru woman Vanessa Elliott to the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility board where she will serve a three-year term ending June 30, 2026. Ms Elliott is based in the Kimberley and has more than 20 years of experience across a diverse range of sectors from her work as a government and community relations lead and an independent consultant. These sectors include mining, energy, economic development, regional and remote project management, and community services.

Stephen Walsh has been recruited by Subiaco-based explorer Tivan to fill its newly-created role of chief geologist. Mr Walsh will be based at Tivan’s head office in Darwin but will be overseeing all aspects of the company’s geological program including its Speewah vanadium, titanium and iron project located in the Kimberley. Mr Walsh has previously had mining experience in Western Australia and the Northern Territory. He is set to commence with Tivan in early August.

Curtin University’s WA School of Mines: Mineral, Energy and Chemical Engineering business manager Tanya Chambers has been appointed as the director of Kalgoorlie Campus, effective August 7. Ms Chambers has worked for Curtin University for more than ten years, driving the university’s Faculty of Science and Engineering. She commenced as the School of Science business manager before elevating to Science and Engineering acting faculty business manager in 2016. One year later, Ms Chambers moved to WA School of Mines.

Medical device manufacturer Nuheara has announced the appointment of Catherine Morgan as head of compliance, regulatory and legal. In this role, Ms Morgan will oversee regulatory strategies, ensure the company adheres to global regulation and drive improvement of management systems. Ms Morgan has more than 20 years’ experience in the hearing healthcare and medical device industry, and prior to joining Nuheara, she worked at National Acoustic Laboratories. Ms Morgan has also previously spent more than 14 years at Cochlear Ltd.

Law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has recruited Paul Devlin as a partner at its Perth office. Mr Devlin has dual-qualifications as a lawyer in Australia and New York, started his career in WA before moving on to work in Sydney and then in the United States. He specialises in white collar crime and civil litigation in industries such as financial services, technology, food and agriculture. Mr Devlin has decades of experience advising on market manipulation, insider trading, accounting fraud, money laundering, foreign bribery, sanctions, offshore banking and class actions.
