Wiese wins Advertising Person of the Year

A Perth-based leader for a national advertising company has won a major industry award at the 2022 Campaign Brief Awards held at Crown.

The Oasis Ball and Campaign Brief Awards is an annual event for advertising, communications and media industry with this year's event held on Friday night.

Wunderman Thompson national chief strategy officer Melanie Wiese was named Advertising Person of the Year, being described as a “force of nature”, strong willed, intelligent, empathetic and ambitious.

Campaign Brief highlighted Ms Wiese’s role behind the merger of Wunderson Thompson and advertising agency Meerkats, and on leading a national agency network out of Perth.

Wunderman Thompson, the third largest advertising agency in WA at the time, acquired Meerkats in 2020.

The Brand Agency was named Agency of the Year at the awards, with Block Branding as the runner-up.

It is the 11th time the Brand Agency won in the category in the 35-year history of the awards.

Advertiser of the Year was awarded to West Australian Ballet, which has been involved with Wunderman Thompson to deliver award-winning shows.

Other winners include Subiaco-based Bonfire which won Digital Agency of the Year after taking on 75 new brands in 202, Perth-based Moonsail winning Challenger Agency of the Year after launching its business late last year and Rare copywriter Simon Mullins for Supernova of the Year.

Initiative in Leederville was awarded Helen Filov Media Agency of the Year for the fifth consecutive year.

Nova 93.7 won the Media Organisation of the Year, the second time it has won in this category since 2007.

The inaugural award of Marketing Executive of the Year was awarded to Louise Kaminskis from Bedshed.
