Uncertain future for some at Harman IT

JOBS could be under threat at Harman IT just months after the local IT consultancy was acquired by global communications company Marconi.

Marconi has announced it will shed between 3000 and 4000 jobs in the next few months, with 1500 expected to be from UK operations. A statement from the company’s UK office said the cuts were a result of the “reduced requirement for certain activities going forward”.

A spokesperson for Marconi Australia said details of the sackings were not yet finalised, but would provide no further comment on job losses at Harman IT.

Marconi acquired Harman IT in April.

The integration of the small IT consultant is expected to give Marconi a significant presence as a communications solutions provider in the oil and gas sector in Australia.

The privately owned Harman IT was founded in 1997 and grew rapidly as an IT consultant to the WA mining sector. Its clients include Hamersley Iron, WMC and Rio Tinto.
