Last week’s increase in reported sales was short-lived, with the AFL grand final, Royal Show and long weekend all conspiring to pull the week’s reported sales figure down to its lowest level since the end of July.

Total sales were off 6 per cent, driven by a 6 per cent fall in house sales, while multi-residential unit sales, which have included strong pre-sales activity in recent months, fell 11 per cent to the their lowest level since April.

Listings for sale were 2 per cent lower this week, most likely reflecting the anticipated market softness that traditionally occurs at the end of September.

However, expect listings to rebound in October, as they have done in recent years, as sales activity picks up.

Also of note, is some softening in the property listed for lease this week.
