Si6 waits for assays after WA gold probe

Tuesday, 8 November, 2022 - 14:11

Mineral Explorer Si6 Metals has wrapped up a 119-hole, 5636m air-core drilling program at its Monument gold project in WA’s Goldfields region where the company is already sitting on a 3.3 million tonne resource. The campaign tested four high-priority target areas including a zone close to Glencore’s world-class Murrin Murrin nickel laterite operation and intersected intriguing geology across each.

The work forms part of a phase three drilling campaign at the site and Perth-based Si6 is now looking to have the samples tested through a multi-element chemical analysis program with the expectation of tabling a set of assays by December.

As part of the exploration at Monument the company completed drilling across a compelling prospect known as “North Well”. The work at the target follows a program that unveiled wide parcels of anomalous gold hits grading over 0.1 grams per tonne in May. Feature intercepts from the probe include a 4m strike at 1.84 grams per tonne gold within a larger 8m section running 0.98 g/t from 86m.

The company says the mineralisation at North Well remains open along strike both to the north-west and south-east.

Another high-priority target tested in its latest program was the Fred’s Well prospect that sits about 5km north of North Well. Previous sampling in the zone returned a suite of compelling results grading up to 39.3 g/t gold over a 700m strike length.

In addition to the bumper sampling results at Fred’s Well a 2017 drilling program about 3km south-east at a prospective patch of dirt known as the Korong felsic intrusive struck a range of anomalous gold intersections including 5m at 0.48 g/t.

Si6 Metals believes the Monument gold project is also prospective for nickel and cobalt mineralisation given the final area tested in its latest flurry sits about 20km north-east of Glencore’s tier-1 Murrin Murrin operation.

The company was compelled to sink a few holes at the zone following a geophysical data review indicating one of the mineralised rock units at Murrin Murrin crept onto its tenure.

Si6 Metals’ Monument gold project covers 310 square kilometres in Western Australia’s renowned Laverton gold district – a zone that is believed to hold about 30 million ounces of gold.

The asset is positioned amongst some of the state’s most notable precious metal plays including the Gold Fields’ 8-million-ounce Granny Smith and Wallaby Mines along with AngloGold Ashanti’s 9-million-ounce Sunrise Dam mine.

With assay results from a zone known for its multi-million ounce deposits now pending things could take an interesting turn for Si6 if even one bears fruit.
