Shell to take up entire tower at Kings Square

Global energy giant Shell has expanded its footprint at Leighton Properties and DEXUS Property Group’s Kings Square, signing up to take up a further 5,847 square metres of office space in the development’s second tower.

The deal lifts Shell’s total commitment at Kings Square to 19,300sqm, taking up the entire 11 floors of the KS2 building.

Leighton Properties national head of commercial Andrew Borger said Shell’s expansion at Kings Square was evidence of increasing confidence in the resources sector.

“We now have 100 per cent of the commercial space lease at KS2, and with this we will see an increased occupancy at Kings Square and enormous flow-on benefits for the precinct, particularly for its retail,” he said.

Shell Australia’s general manager of production, Michael Schoch, said the extra space would give the company flexibility to grow and provide first-class facilities for its staff.

“With our staff numbers doubling to 1,000 in support of Prelude FLNG, this investment in our new corporate headquarters reflects our commitment to Western Australia,” he said.

The deal takes the total leasing commitment across the first three towers at Kings Square to 55 per cent.

The towers have a combined total of 52,033sqm of office and retail space.

Other tenants signed up at Kings Square include health insurer HBF, which is slated to take up the entire 12-storey KS4, and KBR, which is likely to take up between 4,000 and 5,000sqm in KS3.

Construction company John Holland is expected to move into the 21-level KS1, which it is currently building.

“This is further evidence that quality, affordable stock is in demand in the Perth CBD and we expect to see continued interest from other potential high-calibre tenants in the Kings Square precinct,” DEXUS executive general manager, office and industrial, Kevin George said.

The first four towers at Kings Square are due to be completed midway through next year. 

KS2 and KS4 are being built by Leighton Contractors subsidiary Broad Group Holdings, while KS3 is being constructed by Probuild.
