Scitech CEO to retire

Alan Brien will retire as chief executive of Scitech after 17 years in the role.

Scitech board chair Tony Joyner announced Mr Brien’s retirement today, saying the not-for-profit organisation had benefited greatly from his leadership and passion for science.

“Under his leadership, Scitech has grown and developed enormously to become one of the world’s leading interactive science centres,” Mr Joyner said.

“Many people have contributed to the success of this iconic Western Australian institution over the last couple of decades; none stands taller than Alan.”

The board has enlisted the Perth office of Hudson Executive to conduct an international search for a candidate to start in the role between August and November this year.

Mr Brien, who will remain in the position until a new chief executive is appointed, said it had been a privilege to lead Scitech.

“Scitech has been a wonderful opportunity for me. It has been a varied and challenging career,” he said.  

“I am extremely proud of our achievements to date and look forward to seeing the development of a new Scitech at Education Central.”

Education Central, proposed by the Labor government earlier this year, will be a purpose-built facility in the new Perth City Link precinct expected to open in 2020, which will house Scitech and the new Perth Academic College.
