Pindan starts work on regional health campuses

Building company Pindan Contracting has begun work on redeveloping both the Carnarvon Health Campus and Exmouth Health Service, under contracts worth a combined $34.9 million.

The refurbishments were assisted by $28.9 million from the state government’s Royalties for Regions Gascoyne Revitalisation plan.

The upgrades have been designed jointly by Sandover Pinder and Suiters architects.

Health Minister Kim Hames said the two facilities would receive infrastructure upgrades and refurbishments.

“Patients who use the Carnarvon Health Campus will benefit from a refurbished emergency department, new renal facilities and a new centre for outpatient care facilities,” he said.

“Along with community mental health and population health services, the outpatient centre will be fitted with a new two-chair dental service and telehealth facilities to complement the treatment areas, including a physiotherapy gym and rooms for visiting specialists and practitioners.”

Mr Hames said preliminary works at the Carnarvon campus had provided a maternity area and upgrades to meet fire and cyclone standards, as well as a CT scanner.

“Exmouth Health Service will receive new outpatient facilities, refurbished and reconfigured facilities, and co-located community health and child health services on site,” he said.

Both sites will remain open to the public while construction is under way.

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said the redevelopment of the facilities would greatly benefit the locals and visitors in the Gascoyne region by providing modern, well-equipped health facilities.

In May last year, Pindan was awarded $35.8 million in contracts for the expansion of Kalgoorlie Health Campus, in which it built a cancer centre and facilities for outpatient and clinical services, an emergency department, a high dependency unit, 24-hour observation ward and a medical imaging department.

Work is expected to be completed by late 2015.
