Optus Stadium to host Ashes Test, ODI

Perth’s Optus Stadium will host its first ever Ashes Test between Australia and England next year, as well as a One Day International against New Zealand.

The stadium, which can now operate at its full 60,000-fixed seated capacity, will host the fifth and final Test match in the 2021-2022 season, between January 14 and 18.

The Gabba in Brisbane will host the first Test, starting in December this year, followed by Tests in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney before heading west.

The ODI against New Zealand will be held on January 30.

Cricket Australia had factored in quarantine periods for all international series next season, the state government said on Wednesday.

"There's a chance for cricket fans to be part of history with the first ever Ashes Test match at Optus Stadium,” Sports Minister Tony Buti said.

Tourism Minister David Templeman said Optus had proved itself one of the best stadiums in the country.

“The fixtures are a great opportunity to attract crowds and domestic visitors, while putting Perth on display to an international TV audience for millions,” he said.

The state government lifted capacity restrictions for seated venues earlier this month.
