COUNCILLOR Laurence Goodman recently put forward a motion calling for the WA Government to make public details of tender submissions received for the Perth convention and exhibition centre.
Lord Mayor Peter Nattrass used his casting vote to reject the motion after the council vote was tied four-all.
The motion requested that the WA government release submission details, excluding financial or commercially sensitive information, because of the large amount of public money to be invested in the project, the impact of the project on the City of Perth and public interest in the matter.
Councillor Goodman said that as “half the world” knew what was happening in regard to the convention centre and the sports stadium, it was only fair the people of Perth and the Council were put in the know.
Lord Mayor Peter Nattrass rejected the notion that half the world knew about the details.
“I would put it to you that everything is financial or commercial information,” Mr Nattrass said.
“Even if the council passed this, I don’t think the Government would release such information.”
In an interview with Business News Mr Goodman dismissed Dr Nattrass’ comments as “playing to the tune of the WA Government” because of Dr Nattrass’ close affiliation with the Liberal Party.
