Sydney-based AJ Lucas has partnered with French company Spiecapag to win the major contract on APA Group’s $140 million expansion of its Eastern Goldfields gas pipeline.

Called Spiecapag Lucas, the joint venture will carry out the contract for an undisclosed amount as part of APA’s $140 million Goldfields Gas pipeline expansion.

Construction of the 293-kilometre gas transmission pipeline, and associated infrastructure, will continue APA's Murrin Murrin lateral pipeline to AngloGold Ashanti's Sunrise Dam and Tropicana gold mines.

The pipeline will be used for the purpose of fueling gas fired power generation facilities at both mine sites.

In a statement, AJ Lucas managing director Russell Eggers said the joint venture would establish a new project office in Perth and start readying machines in January 2015.

Mr Eggers said building the pipeline was expected to start in March 2015 and finish in November 2015.

"This work for APA is a key contract for AJ Lucas and further extends our long term relationship of delivering their gas pipelines," he said.

"This contract win is a result of our industry-leading experience, good safety record and strong client focus. It also extends our already established strategic partnership with Spiecapag Australia, which has been in place for more than 20 years."
