Leading Australian advertising figure and the architect of the Howard Government’s election campaign advertising, Ted Horton, will speak at a WA Business News event to honour Western Australia’s top brands.

Mr Horton will be the guest speaker at the luncheon event planned for October 6 and will address parallels and differences between consumer brands and political advertising.

“The fundamental difference between most brand advertising and political advertising is that brand advertising is judged on how positively it effects a brand’s image and positioning, whereas political advertising is judged solely on how it affects consumer behaviour,” Mr Horton told WA Business News.

“In politics, it is not important whether people like you. The only thing that’s important is that they vote for you.”

Mr Horton is a founding partner of Melbourne-based advertising agency Dewey & Horton.

His greatest claim to fame is his creative role in every Liberal Party federal election campaign since 1996.

He has also been responsible for television advertising for department store David Jones for the past eight years.
