Green light for Hazelmere industrial

The state government has rezoned almost 200 hectares of land to industrial uses in Hazelmere, north-east of Perth Airport.

Previously zoned rural, the land will be located close to a rail freight line, the airport, and is about 15 kilometres out of Perth’s CBD.

It will also have access to Roe Highway.

Part of the land will also be rezoned for urban parks and recreation under the amendments to the Metropolitan Region Scheme.

Planning Minister John Day said the area was a prime location for heavy industry.

Rezoning some parcels of land will enable the area to grow … and create more job opportunities for West Australians,” he said.

“I anticipate the types of businesses that will be attracted to this area in the near future will be in keeping with existing industrial enterprises.”

A number of new housing developments are also taking place in the area, and the state government hopes the close location will minimise travel times to work.

The nearby Midland area is home to one of the busiest rail freight corridors in the state, with freight moving through the region to the Kewdale freight terminal, Fremantle Port and Kwinana bulk terminal.

The announcement follows the government's development of the Hazelmere Enterprise Area plan in 2011.
