Frustration leads to Internet portal

FRUSTRATION at being unable to target local people and local people not being able to find local products on the Internet has led to the formation of a South West portal.

The portal has been developed by the South West Internet Committee under the umbrella of the Bunbury Chamber of Commerce and Industries, with financial assistance from the South West Development Commission.

The committee membership represents twenty-eight organisations from information technology, industry, local business, educational institutions and government agencies.

A $20,000 handout was presented by WA Deputy Premier Hendy Cowan at the launch of the site to assist in marketing, project coordination and software developments.

The portal is a web site that acts as a search engine linking South West businesses with other web sites in the region quickly and accurately.

It is aimed at acting as a vehicle to both market regional businesses and combat encroachment into local markets from other regions.
