Curtin Heritage to acquire SHINE

Two Western Australian-based aged care operators will become one, following Curtin Heritage Living’s announcement of plans to acquire SHINE Community Services.

The groups have signed a heads of agreement that will result in both organisations working towards Curtin Heritage acquiring SHINE.

Curtin Heritage Living specialises in residential aged care and retirement living, with construction under way at its $130 million facility in Cottesloe, which includes the development of an aged care and apartments complex on the site of existing Wearne Cottesloe facility along Marine Parade.

The group also operates the RiverSea Village and RiverSea Mosman Park campuses. 

SHINE Community Services provides in-home support to older community members who choose to remain in their homes.

Curtin Heritage Living managing director David Cox said SHINE Community Service’s delivery of in-home care and support aligned perfectly with the organisation’s commitment to delivering high quality care.

“Our two organisations are people focused – valuing the right of older people to choose a manner of care that works for them and their families,” Mr Cox said.

“We see the acquisition of SHINE Community Services and a combining of their skills and experience with ours, as a natural extension of our core business and our vision to deliver more services into our local community.”

SHINE Community Services chief executive Ralph Gore said the team, which included volunteers, was excited top be able to grow its offering in the community as the non-profit organisation moved to become an integral part of the Curtin Heritage Living group.

Curtin Heritage Living has more than 200 staff, while SHINE Community Services has a team of about 35.

“We are delighted with this transaction and look to the future with expectation and great enthusiasm,” Mr Gore said.

Over the coming months SHINE Community Services said it would continue to operate from its Forrest Street base and that it would maintain its current suite of services.
