Crown Perth, Scope shine in WA training awards

Crown Perth and Scope Training are among this year’s winners in the 21^st annual WA Training Awards.

Hosted at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre last week, Crown Perth was named the WA employer of the year, which focused on the extent and quality of training for employees, training achievements of the business, innovation in training and commitment to equity in training.

“Crown Perth is exceptionally proud to be the recipient of the WA employer of the year award and this important industry accolade is a reflection of the high level of training provided by our dedicated trainers and teams,” Crown group manager of learning and development Shane Thomas said.

This year’s small training provider of the year award went to Scope Training, which provides training solutions in project management, health and safety, training and assessment, and leadership and management to corporate, not-for-profit and public sector clients.

Scope Training was also a finalist in the WA Telstra Business Awards this year and in 2013.

Scope was established in 2010 and provides its courses to around 400 students per annum.

It offers participants industry-relevant training which is delivered by professionals with both industry experienced and proven academic accomplishments.

Training and Workforce Development Minister Liza Harvey congratulated all of the award winners.

“The awards recognise innovative programs and partnerships, best practice and excellence in training, as well as the outstanding achievements of individuals who have helped shape WA’s training sector,” Ms Harvey said.

“The awards show that vocational education and training is not just about giving people job skills but also providing training of the highest level, relevant to what industry and employers need in their staff.”

Newton Moore Education Support Centre took the award for WA school pathways to VET, while Central Institute of Technology’s jumpstart training program received the WA training initiative award.

Durack Institute of Technology took home the WA large training provider of the year, while DNA Kingston Training was named the WA international training provider of the year.

The winners share in over $80,000 in cash and prizes, while some, including Crown Perth, will have the opportunity to represent WA at the Australian Training Awards, which will be held in Hobart in November.
