The state government has unveiled the Dennis Cometti Media Centre at Optus Stadium, honouring the famous Western Australian sports broadcaster with a state-of-the-art media facility.

The centre includes two television studios, eight radio commentary boxes and a 30-person print press box, along with a dedicated lounge for media personnel.

Premier Mark McGowan said Mr Cometti’s influence on the state’s sporting community was immense.

Dennis Cometti is a Western Australian commentary and media icon,” he said

“I can think of no-one more deserving of this great honour.

“The Dennis Cometti Media Centre at Optus Stadium is state of the art and gives the stadium another advantage in securing more national and international events.”

The centre also includes an interview room that can accommodate up to 180 journalists and a photographers’ work room.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Cometti said it was a humbling moment.

“Nobody sets out on any career thinking about having a day like today, but a day like today certainly makes you think about your career,” he said

“There is no doubt WA bats well above its weight when it comes to producing sports broadcasters and journalists.

“The people acknowledged in this wonderful media centre prove that.”

The design of the facility was developed in consultation with the Media User Group, which comprises journalists and technical staff from a host of media outlets.
