Boston to head Chamber of Arts

The Chamber of Arts and Culture WA has appointed its inaugural executive director, with the recruitment of experienced arts administrator Henry Boston.

Mr Boston is currently the state manager of Creative Partnerships Australia (CPA), formerly known as the Australian Business Arts Foundation prior to amalgamating with Artsupport Australia in 2012.

Chamber chairman Warwick Hemsley said a full time executive director would further strengthen the organisation in its efforts to represent and promote the interests of arts and culture in Western Australia.

Mr Hemsley was appointed chairman earlier this year, replacing Rio Tinto CEO Sam Walsh upon his move to London.

Mr Walsh played an integral role in setting up the Chamber in 2010, which until now has mostly been managed by a series of board members.

“This is a great opportunity to build on the excellent foundation work of the chambers and its board and many active members,” Mr Boston said.

Mr Boston’s past experience includes 12 years with ABaF/CPA and 11 years as the Perth International Arts Festival general manager.

“I’ve been involved in all facets of the arts from performer to lighting technician to festival programming across multiple art forms," Mr Boston said.

“This gives me real insight into the challenges and opportunities that face the sector”.

Mr Boston will be replaced by James Boyd and Ceandra Faria at CPA and will officially take on his position with the Chamber in July 2013.
