FINDING, inventing, researching, trialling and owning solutions is what drives Benjamin Avila in his role as managing director of the Avila Group of Companies, which he co-founded in 1999.

It’s this same motivation that propelled Mr Avila to find a second, very profitable income stream for the flagship business, Bio Organics, with only a minor increase in overheads.

Sticking to its roots in manufacturing quality compost, Mr Avila realised the business’s facility could also be used to remediate contaminated soil, diverting massive volumes of waste from landfill to be recycled and remediated.

This has transformed Bio Organics into a waste remediation powerhouse, with the business looking to develop a second facility this year.

The Avila Group of Companies is a broad umbrella for Mr Avila’s family businesses, and includes wine producer Castle Lion and project consulting firm ProManage.

His quiet contribution to the community includes modifying production processes so he can employ Activ Foundation members and provide heavy machinery to fight bush fires.
