Aspen Developments has revealed plans to build a $120 million retirement village in Currambine on behalf of Southern Cross Care (WA) Inc.

The village will be located on the corner of Burns Beach Road and Connolly Drive, close to the Currambine Train Station and the Currambine Market Place Shopping Centre.

The village is the second development undertaken by Aspen Developments, via Aspen Development Fund No. 1 Limited, for Southern Cross Care, the first being the development of the Success Retirement Village which was completed in 2003.

The Currambine Retirement Village is an accommodation facility for seniors aged 55 and over providing a range of modern amenities such as sporting facilities (pool, spa, gym, bowling green, darts and pool table, putting green), workshop, an expansive library and computer room.

The facility will be owned and operated by Southern Cross Care, providing residents with access to a variety of community care services enabling them to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.

The development will provide accommodation for up to 462 residents and consist of 231 independent living units, including 78 single storey homes, 28 terraced villas and 125 apartments.

Stuart Flynn, Chief Executive Officer of Southern Cross Care, said the Currambine Retirement Village represented what had become a successful partnership between the two organisations.

"We are very excited at the prospect of again working with Aspen Developments," said Mr Flynn.

"Opening a facility in Perth's northern suburbs has been a long-term objective for Southern Cross Care and it is very pleasing to see that goal now come to fruition."

"Given the success of past projects, we're hopeful that this development will lead to other opportunities in the future," he said.

Peter Hall, Managing Director of Aspen Developments, said that the Currambine project achieves one of the stated outcomes of the Fund.

"Working with such a well respected and key player in the retirement sector as Southern Cross Care continues to enhance Aspen Developments' reputation as a renowned developer in the retirement sector," he said.

The development is currently being advertised by the City of Joondalup for public comment.

Construction of the village is due to begin in early 2008 with completion expected approximately 42 months from commencement.
