Our weekly appointments wrap includes Dean Hely, Ashleigh Lin, Billy Meston, Rob Arthur, Richard Whiting, Mark Major and Paul Underwood

Dean Hely has been appointed chair of the board of social services organisation Youth Focus, replacing David Gray, who held the position for the past two-and-a-half years. Mr Hely is managing partner at law firm Lavan and a director at Quadrant Advisory. A Youth Focus board member since 2015, Mr Hely said he was thrilled to be named chair and guide Youth Focus through the next stage of growth. Ashleigh Lin and Billy Meston are also joining the board as directors. Dr Lin is the program head of mental health and youth at the Telethon Kids Institute. Mr Meston is a partner at PwC in Perth, president of the Claremont Nedlands Cricket Club and a director at Westside Wolves Hockey Club.  

Rob Arthur has been appointed partner in McGrathNicol Advisory’s strategy and business improvement team. Trained as a chartered accountant, Mr Arthur previously held roles in strategy and finance in Australia and Europe for nbn Australia, FTI Consulting and Ramsay Health Care. He has over 15 years’ experience in working with businesses to drive strategic change across the telecommunications, energy, infrastructure, financial services and healthcare sectors.

Richard Whiting has been made chief executive of technology startup Node1 Internet. Prior to his appointment at Node1, Mr Whiting held executive positions at the Data Exchange Network, Vocus Communications, Amcom Telecommunications and DXN. He has more than 40 years’ experience in the technology and telecommunications industry. At Node1, he will be responsible for expanding the Node1 business footprint across the state.

Great Southern Mining has appointed Mark Major as chief operating officer. A qualified geologist with an MBA, Mr Major has held executive and senior management roles in mining. He spent 10 years as managing director at Hodges Resources and prior to that, he worked on projects in Argentina for Toronto-listed Aquiline Resources. 

Paul Underwood has joined Dampier Gold as special corporate, strategic planning and business development advisor. Mr Underwood was the founding managing director and chief executive at Tap Oil from 1996 to 2007, has been executive chair of ASX-listed Triple Energy and was a non-executive director of Western Power. Fluent in French, he has been on the board of Alliance Francaise de Perth for ten years, the past six as president.
