Technology solutions provider Portable Spectral Services has unveiled Sophie Hancock as its new chief executive, expected to lead the company’s expansion and scale-up. Dr Hancock is an experienced geologist with extensive business knowledge, and prior to her appointment at PSS, she worked as principal consultant at Geo-Logic Resources Consulting for nearly five years. Dr Hancock has also served stints working as regional business manager minerals and mining at oil and gas company CGG, director at Australian Earth Science Education as well as director and later governance committee member at the Australian Institute of Geoscientists.

Sabina Shugg has been appointed as independent non-executive director at Tellus Holdings. A mining engineer with more than three decades of experience, Ms Shugg is also the founder and chair of Women in Mining and Resources WA and was awarded a Member of the General Division of the Order of Australia in 2015 for her distinguished service to mining and for being a role model and mentor to women. In addition to Tellus, Ms Shugg also serves on the state government’s Mining and Petroleum Advisory Committee and is a non-executive director of Resolute Mining and Tietto Minerals. She formerly worked as a director of Curtin University’s Kalgoorlie campus WA School of Mines for four years and was the chair of the Goldfields Esperance Development Commission for three years.

The Property Council WA has promoted Cliff Winby from project director to vice president developments at Brookfield Properties. Mr Winby has more than 20 years’ experience in property and joined Brookfield Properties in mid-2019. He has served with the Property Council committee to contribute his experience and was the inaugural chair of the Cities and Emerging Precincts committee.

The acting chief executive of the Western Australian Institute of Sport, Matt Fulton, has been appointed to the position permanently after six months serving in the interim role following Steve Lawrence’s resignation. Mr Fulton has previous experience leading sports organisations as chief executive, including SportWest for three years and WestCycle for six years.

BGC Australia chairman Neil Hamilton has stepped down after more than five years in the role, with Jennifer Seabrook taking his place. Ms Seabrook joined the BGC board at the same time as Mr Hamilton and she is also chair of ASX-listed Deterra Royalties and non-executive director of health fund HBF.

ASX-listed Arafura Rare Earths has appointed Stuart MacNaughton as its chief operating officer, bringing his 30-plus years of experience in the resources sector to the company. Dr MacNaughton has held roles managing projects and operations in Australia, North America, Brazil and Africa, and is a fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
