Woodside Energy has proposed to build a $25 million development for temporary medical facilities and offices at its LNG processing train site in Burrup.
The Regional Joint Development Assessment Panel will consider the proposal at its meeting next week.
The application was lodged by Rowe Group acting on behalf of engineering firm Bechtel, the primary contractor engaged by Woodside for the Pluto Train 2 LNG project on the Burrup Peninsula.
The proposed development includes offices, a medical facility, ancillary medical centre, heavy equipment maintenance workshop, a guardhouse, crib huts, ablution blocks and water pipeline.
It is expected to be developed across eight lots in Burrup, land which DevelopmentWA owns in freehold and leases to oil and gas companies.
DevelopmentWA has leased parts of some of the lots to Shell Development, BHP Billiton Petroleum, BP developments, Chevron, Japan Australia LNG and Yara Pilbara fertilisers.
Rowe Group’s application report said Woodside, Bechtel and contractors would work according to procedures set out in a Cultural Heritage Management plan.
“Woodside and Bechtel will continue to proactively engage representatives of the Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation and the Ngarda-Ngarli traditional custodians on cultural heritage management activities for the proposed Pluto Train 2 LNG Project,” the report said.
The City of Karratha has approved the proposal, recommending in its responsible authority report that the JDAP approve the proposed facilities with conditions.
"The development subject to this approval is temporary in nature and shall be removed from the site/s upon completion of the construction of the second LNG processing train," the RAR said.
The EPA recently published a 150-page assessment for Woodside’s application to extend its North West Shelf LNG project on the Burrup Peninsula.
It has recommended Environment Minister Reece Whitby approve the project on the condition that Woodside reduce or gradually offset its greenhouse gas emissions from 26.95 million tonnes of CO2-e per year in 2030 to zero by 2050.
