WestStar Industrial subsidiary SIMPEC has won a $2.7 million contract at Talison Lithium’s Greenbushes lithium mine.

Under the terms of the contract, which was awarded by West Perth-based MSP Engineering, Simpec will design and build water tanks for mineral and chemical processing at the mine’s chemical grade plant two project (CGP2 project).

The CGP2 project is due for commissioning in the second quarter of 2019 and Talison expects it will double the capacity of the world’s largest lithium mine to 1.34 million tonnes of lithium concentrate per year.

The tanks are expected to be delivered to the mine over a six-month period.

Earlier this month, Simpec secured a contract extension from MSP Engineering for work at the Greenbushes mine, which involved the supply and installation of fibre optic cables and concrete cable pits at the site.

It also was awarded work at BHP Billiton’s South Flank and Iluka Resources’ Cataby Mineral Sands.

The new contracts and extensions have added a total of $5 million to Simpec’s order book.

Simpec managing director Mark Dimasi said the tanks contract was the culmination of many months of effort from the Simpec team.

“We are very excited about our increasing involvement in the CGP2 Project,” he said.

“We are optimistic that our work here will translate into further awards and even greater market traction.”

Weststar’s shares were up 5.8 per cent at 1.6 cents each at 4pm AEDT.
