Wavenet signs US contract

WAVENET Technologies (ASX WAL), the Perth-based developer of a data wireless cradle for Palm Pilots, has signed a US$3 million deal with the American data network operator Motient Corporation.

The deal is well timed as Wavenet is negotiating with three Asian manufacturers to mass-produce the innovative Dualwave wireless technology for the Palm platform.

Motient owns and operates an integrated terrestrial/satellite network and provides a wide range of two-way mobile and Internet communication services for a variety of markets including mobile professionals, telemetry, transportation, field service, and nationwide voice dispatch offering coverage to all 50 US States, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and hundreds of kilometres of US coastal waters.

Motient will offer cradles over its entire nationwide network enabling Palm V users to access the Internet and corporate intranets nationwide.
