Former WesTrac chief executive Jim Walker is set to step up to the role of chairman at Macmahon Holdings, replacing incumbent chair Ken Scott-Mackenzie who will retire next month.

Mr Walker was appointed to the Macmahon board as a non-executive director in October last year, having previously served as chief executive of Seven Group Holdings subsidiary WesTrac for 13 years.

He has served in the resources sector for more than 40 years and has held directorships at companies including National Hire Group and Coates Group Holdings.

Macmahon had previously flagged that Mr Scott-Mackenzie would step down as chairman at some point this year as part of a board renewal process.

Mr Scott-Mackenzie will resign from the Macmahon board of directors at the conclusion of the company's board meeting next month, having served as chairman since 2009.
