WAIMR engages Titan ICT for research facilities

Perth-based technology group Titan ICT Consultants has been signed by the Western Australian Institute of Medical Research to design and build the IT systems for two new medical research facilities.

The research facilities are currently under construction at the QEII Medical Campus and the Fiona Stanley Hospital.

Around 45 research institutions will be housed at the two buildings, including WAIMR, the University of Western Australia, the Health Department of WA, and the Lions Eye Institute.

Titan ICT Consultants principle enterprise architect Bret Watson said Titan would aim to create a collaborative system for the secure sharing and transfer of data between research groups.

“The high tech facilities incorporate a large-scale data management system required for the management and preservation of research data,” Mr Watson said.

“As the research grants could require the retention of information for up to 25 years, research data needs to be highly protected on a resilient infrastructure for lengthy periods.

“It will be structured to it is easily manageable and will handle things such as retention periods automatically.”

WAIMR’s new premises are expected to open later this year and early next year, and will house 800 researchers once fully operational.
