PERTH-based company Cape Range Wireless has acquired 20 per cent of US company Arcadian Wireless Inc.

Cape Range will complete its current funding arrangements with Dunfold Limited – which has been merged into Arcadian – by paying out more than $1 million by 30 March.

Arcadian will commence roll-out of its first commercial product in volume in April.

The Silicon Valley-based company plans to develop fixed wireless solutions using proprietary Internet protocol technology to supplement its current ange, which has particular relevance to emerging markets and rural environments.

Through Dunfold, Cape Range Wireless has funded development of Internet Protocol Multiple Access as a unique digital protocol.

A Cape Range spokesman said, when used in fixed wireless networks, the cost and performance of a single integrated system capable of carrying data and high quality voice exceeded those currently available in the marketplace.

The worldwide market for fixed wireless technology is estimated to require 300 million new lines by 2002.
