The WA Labor party will meet today for the first time since the state election to discuss the possibility of forming an alliance with the National Party.

The make-up of the state's new government is expected to be revealed on Sunday when the Nationals reveal which major party to support.

Premier Alan Carpenter has told ABC radio there's some disappointment among his MPs about the possible alliance.

The premier is holding an informal cabinet meeting this morning to update ministers on the talks with the Nationals.

Mr Carpenter, who has already stated that Labor will be offering a number of cabinet positions to the Nationals but has not said how many, is also planning a caucus meeting later today to keep all MPs informed.

Liberal leader Colin Barnett has finished working on his proposal which includes up to five cabinet posts.

Nationals' leader Brendon Grylls is expected to announce his party's decision on Sunday.

Mr Grylls has made it clear that any deal with either of the major parties to help form a Government hinges on whether 25 percent of the state's mining royalties is allocated for regional areas is accepted.
