Surveying firm Veris Australia has announced the appointment of Michael Shirley as its new chief executive, replacing Brian Elton who led the company in an interim role since October last year.

Mr Shirley has served as an associate with management consulting firm BRS in Melbourne for the past three months.

Prior to that, he was managing director, clients with Aurecon for three years and as group vice president, ANZ Infrastructure and Environment with Jacobs Engineering for nearly two years.

He was also the Buildings and Infrastructure general manager, and New Zealand regional manager, for New South Wales-based civil engineering company Sinclair Knight Merz for nearly seven years combined.

Veris said Mr Shirley will support key strategic focus areas of the company, including surveying and geospatial and 3D spatial services, to support business growth and new customer acquisitions.

Commenting on the appointment was Veris managing director Adam Lamond.

“(Mr Shirley’s) proven track record in leadership, strategic planning and business development will be instrumental in driving Veris Australia’s margin growth, profitability and strengthening our national presence and market share,” Mr Lamond said.

He added Mr Elton would work closely with Mr Shirley in a transitional period.

“Brian will also continue providing strategic advice and support to the Elton Consulting business,” Mr Lamond said.

Elton Consulting was founded by Mr Elton and acquired by Veris in 2018.

Shares in Veris were up 7.35 per cent to trade at 7.3 cents per share, as at 4:10pm AEDT.
