Valtari Construction has been appointed to spearhead the $12 million refurbishment of the 116-year-old Claremont Hotel, just months after the company launched.

The refurbishment will include upgrades to the hotel’s original façade, with additional bar space, kitchens and a new two-storey beer garden to replace the bottle shop.

Valtari director Luke Pruyn said the project appointment was an exciting moment for the new company, which launched earlier this year to cater to large-scale commercial projects.

The company is run by Mr Pruyn and his business partner Mitch Hill, the owners of Assemble Building Co.

Assemble is responsible for a number of residential, interiors and hospitality projects in Perth and the South West, including Cooee, Sunshine Harvester Works and Moana Hall.

The refurbishment plans have been in the works for several years, but were halted following the first COVID-19 lockdown in April last year.

The refurbishment of the Bay View Terrace site, part-owned by Barry Jones, is being led by Northbridge-based architectural firm Fratelle Group.

Construction on the project is expected to begin immediately.

The news comes just months after Valtari completed the refurbishment of the Leederville Hotel, the venue's first complete restoration in its 120-year history.
