UWA course pays off

UNIVERSITY of WA Master of Business Administration graduates still command the highest completion salary, according to data from the Good University Guide to MBA and Graduate Management Programs in 2003.

UWA graduates earn an average $87,823 on completing the course. By comparison, Edith Cowan University students earn $58,791.

This information comes from WA’s universities and this year the information supplied by both Curtin and Murdoch universities was not conclusive because less than 50 per cent of their graduates responded.

However, historically a $20,000 gap in earnings has existed between the graduates from these universities and those from UWA.

Of the four public WA universities, graduates from Murdoch had the highest unemployment rate. The guide shows that 11 per cent of its graduates from 2000 were seeking full-time work at the time of the survey in 2001.

Those seeking work from UWA’s program increased from a marginal 1 per cent in 1999 to 8 per cent in 2000.

A further 7 per cent from ECU were seeking work.

While figures are not available this year for Curtin University, in the previous year, 24 per cent were seeking work – well above the average.
